Alumni Association Status - July 2017

July 1, 2017 - No one has volunteered yet to be officers for the MCS Alumni Association.

In accordance with Article 12 of the Association Bylaws, ratified on June 15, 2013 and amended on June 24th 2014, operations will cease and the Association, as created and described in those Bylaws, will dissolve on August 1, 2017.

When the Association dissolves, money that was previously donated for scholarships will be transferred to the Milford School District.  School officials will be asked that the money be used to award final scholarships to 2018 MCS graduates, given in the name of the Alumni Association.

The Association bank account will remain open, to be used by the committee organizing a banquet at WEST1566 in Milford on September 30, 2017.  It is hoped that someone will agree to take responsibility for the account by that time.  If no one volunteers, the account will be closed following the banquet.

May 24, 2017 - There are still no volunteers to serve as President, Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer of the MCS Alumni Association.  The two year terms of office for the remaining members of the Executive Committee expire on August 1, 2017.

The association bylaws were written and approved, and 501(c)(3) status under the U.S. Tax Code was attained in 2013.  501(c)(3) status means that contributions to the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund could be claimed as charitable deductions on donor tax returns.
The Association can not exist as a charitable organization without a board of officers to manage its activities and safeguard money donated to the Association's scholarship fund.  In accordance with the dissolution article in the Association's bylaws, the MCS Alumni Association will dissolve on August 1, 2017.  At that time, the Association will forgo charitable status and will no longer be bound by the bylaws as they are written.

Dissolution does not mean that the MCS Alumni Association will cease to exist, but that it will become inactive. If, at any time in the future, a group of alumni wish to resume operations by volunteering to be officers or wish to form a banquet committee, they are encouraged to do so.

If anyone has thoughts on how the MCS Alumni Association should be changed or restructured, or wish to offer any other advice, please send an email to hugotbeck@gmail.com and I will share it with the remaining Executive Committee.
